OCEAN GROVE UNITED IN OCEAN GROVE, NJSILENT PROTEST AND ANNUAL BLOCK PARTY AN ALTERNATIVE TO KIRK CAMERON

Friday, July 27, 2012, at 5:30 followed by Block Party Cookman Ave between New York and Pennsylvania Avenues

Ocean Grove United is presenting an alternative to the OG Camp Meeting’s program featuring Kirk Cameron - Love Worth Fighting For with a silent protest, "ALL Love is Worth Fighting For." Mr. Cameron’s appearance on national television denigrating homosexuality is unacceptable and his presence in Ocean Grove is a disservice to our entire community.

In order to express our dissatisfaction with the appearance of Mr. Cameron in the Great Auditorium that evening, we plan on walking over to the auditorium prior to the block party to peacefully demonstrate that Mr. Cameron’s words matter, that they hurt individuals, and that we have a voice too. We will not be interfering in any way with the public attending his event.

An excerpt from Gil's "Verbal Violence" for the Silent Protest:

Ocean Grove is a uniquely beautiful, gracious, and hospitable community on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. The Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association has sought to be faithful to its mission and understandings of ministry. But, in the 21st century it is compromising that mission and ministry as it acknowledges, affirms and accepts its residents who are gay and lesbian, while at the same time endorsing a person who demeans those residents by inviting him to speak.

Ocean Grove United has been clear, candid and courageous in its response to the presence of Kirk Cameron. It has also been forthright in its opposition to the prohibitions against same sex Civil Unions being performed in the "public places" owned by the Camp Meeting Association. OGU has been a "loyal opposition" in Ocean Grove worthy of respect by all.

Is it not time for all of us to cease tolerating VERBAL VIOLENCE, whether it is described as an expression of "free speech", or uttered in the name of religion?
